Be Moved!

The Power of Music to Move People - Physically, Emotionally, Intellectually

Part I

1) ( work with other students and write down as many responses to the following as you can)

Music can ……..

2)Each person in the class should write a short paragraph that gives an example of each of the following:

- An experience in your life that moved or challenged you emotionally
- An experience in your life that moved or challenged you physically
- An experience in your life that moved or challenged you intellectually

And 1 if the following

- An experience you might have in the future that might move or challenge you emotionally
- An experience you might have in the future that might move or challenge you physically
- An experience you might have in the future that might move or challenge you intellectually
These paragraphs were started in class and finished for homework. After students completed their paragraphs they were asked to read aloud to the rest of the class one of their paragraphs of their choosing. If they felt uncomfortable sharing their paragraph aloud they were not forced to share it with the rest of the class.

After sharing their paragraphs students formed groups of 3-4 of their choice to begin part II

Part II

Create a musical motif that captures what you wrote in each paragraph, in sound.

Students used the piano roll editor of sequencing software to create, edit and listen to their motifs.

Part III

Write a piece of SLAM poetry or spoken word that expresses what you wrote in one of your paragraphs
Students completed this part of the project for homework
